Alice E. Coomer, 84 of Columbus passed away at 9:30 p.m. Friday April 22, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Mrs. Coomer had worked at Arvin Industies for 38 years where she retired in 1989. She was a member of Hawcreek Baptist Church. She loved to sing southern gospel music, gardening, sewing and cooking.
The funeral will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with the Rev. Gerald Hancock officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery at Hope.
Memorials may be made to Bible Church of Columbus, Hospice or Hawcreek Cemetery thru the funeral home.
Born in Edmonton, Kentucky on Sept. 22, 1926, Mrs. Coomer was the daughter of Roy T. and Mamie N. Jessee Fields. She married Ernest A Coomer Oct. 16, 1941. He preceded in death on Dec. 31, 2003.
Survivors include daughters Nina Wells and Earline (John) Cheek both of Columbus; grandchildren Brenda (Larry) Jines, Troy (Marcia) Cheek, Tad (Tyra) Cheek, Shannon (Brad) Bower, Travis (Kim) Cheek all of Columbus; great grandchildren Nick and Caleb Bower, Tyler (Ashley) Jines, Nina (Matt) Henry, Alexis and Makenzie Cheek and Hunter Newsom; great great grandchildren Alexis and Preston Jines; brothers and sisters Midlred (Wooduff0 Burris of Columbus, Earnestine (Jim) Bryant of Hope,Tom (Peg) Fields of Columbus, Louise (Paul) Riley of Austin, Marylou Hamilton of Louisvilley, Ky., and Tilda (Bob) Froedge, of Edmonron, Ky.
Mrs. Coomer was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandsons Mark Wells and Jeff Sullivan and a infant brother and sister.
