Obituary

Alma Lillian "Lil" Mann, 91, of Hope, died February 14,
2016, at Miller's Merry Manor.
She was retired from Sorenson's Construction in Florida.
In her earlier years, she had worked in Quality Control for
Gulf Plastics and as a radio operator at the Sheriff's Office
in Greensburg and was a WAVE in the United States Navy,
working in the control tower on the air base in Norman,
Oklahoma.
She was a member of Petersville United Methodist Church
and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxilliary. She enjoyed fishing,
gardening, camping and spending time with her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at
Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Stormy
Schererberry officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at
the funeral home. Burial with a military graveside service
conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor
Guard will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of
South Central Indiana or Petersville United Methodist Church.
Born September 13, 1924, in Shepherdsville, Kentucky,
Alma was the daughter of Andrew Perry and Grace Emma
Arnold DeSpain. She married Jay Dee Mann February 25,
1945, and he preceded her in death June 15, 2004.
Survivors include a daughter, Cyndy (Herman) Frye
of Hope; a son, J.D. "Skip" (Sharon Clark) Mann of Brown
County; grandchildren, Todd (Karen) Franklin of Virginia,
Kelly (David) Ellis of Hope, Mike (Sandi) George of Florida,
Jason Mann and Missy Mann, both of Jennings County,
Chad Barton of Hope and Shawn Mann of Columbus;
several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Ruby Penrose of Columbus.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
and siblings, Mattie Kimball, Frances Massey, Buelah Snyder,
Ruth Sample, Jean Baker, Marie Defler, Judy Morgan, Melvin,
Delbert and Earny DeSpain.
