Obituary

Betty Jean Gabriel Artis, 69 of Columbus passed away Wednesday
September 4, 2013 at Willow Crossing Health Center.
She managed the former Clifford Grocery Store until 1980, when she became employed at Osco Drug Store in the Commons Mall as a cashier.
She was a member of the Hartsville Church of Christ and a member of the Red Hat Society at the church. She loved her pets, gardening and caring for her nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful cook always making special dishes for family get togethers.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Chad Ranson officiating. The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery.
Memorials may be donated through the funeral home to Hartsville Church of Christ Building Fund or American Diabetes Association
Born November 8, 1943 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, Betty was the daughter of Joseph and Jannie Skroupa Gabriel.
Survivors include sisters, Debra Gabriel of Columbus, Barbara (Charles)West of Lafayette, Faye (Bob) Rose of Hope, Shirley (Jack) Holmes of Columbus and Evelyn (Farrell) Axsom of Columbus; a brother, Steve Gabriel of Hope;several nieces and nephews; a special great nephew Derek Wells as well as several other great nieces and nephews; one great great niece and one great great nephew.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James, Jerry, Donald and Frank Gabriel and a nephew Scott Axsom.
