Betty Devone Hamilton, 89 of Flat Rock, passed away Tuesday March 9, 2010 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
She was retired from being a school teacher. She started the first two years of her teaching career at Mt. Auburn and then taught for twenty two years at Waldron School.
She graduated from Indiana University where she played women sports.
She was a member of the Flat Rock United Methodist Church, and the Indiana Teacher's Assoc. and a past member of the Flat Rock Eastern Star. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.
There will be a graveside service Saturday at 2:30 pm at Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock, IN with Rev. Leslie Fix officiating. No viewing hours are planned. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Flat Rock Fire Dept. at P.O. Box 194, Flat Rock, IN 47234 or through Norman Funeral Home at 604 Main St. Hope, IN.
Born on July 13, 1920, Mrs. Hamilton was the daughter of Leonard R. and Breanious Cropper McQueen. She married Garnet V. Hamilton June 20, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Hamilton of Shelby Co. and Kathleen Hamilton of Madison, IN; two sons, Ray (Carrie) and Ron (Pam) Hamilton, both of Flat Rock, IN; grandchildren, Kevin (Angie) Taggart of Lynn, IN, DeAnne (Jamie) Mayfield of Bloomfield, IN, Rob (Michelle) Taggart of Shelby Co., Tom (Lori) Palmer of Madison, IN, David (Angie) Hamilton of Flat Rock, IN, Kimberly (Ryan) Hedrick of Washington, NC, Kristen (Brandon) Bennett of Carmel, IN and Stephanie Hamilton of Flat Rock, IN. and eight great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
