Obituary

Charles Lester Caldwell, 76, of Hope, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Columbus Regional Health.

Born on December 25, 1946 in Bartholomew County, he was the son of Lester and Hattie Mae Rush Caldwell.  He married Edna Henderson on May 25, 1969, and she survives.

Charles retired from Dorel Industries.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received two purple hearts.

Charles was a member of Faith Chapel Church.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family.

There will be a graveside service for friends and family at 2:00 p.m. at Monday, August 14 at Hope Moravian Cemetery.  Charles will be honored with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Charles is survived by his wife, Edna; son, John W. (Aimee) Caldwell of Columbus; grandchildren, Trey (Courtney) Shipley of Hope and Quindon Shipley (fiancé Mara Cox) of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Cambreigh Shipley, Amiyah Shipley, Daxton Shipley and Braelynn Shipley; siblings, Deede (David) Bragg of Hope, Johnny R. Caldwell (Judy Stevens) of Hope, Davey (Francis) Caldwell of Columbus, Larry Caldwell of Columbus and Jimmy Caldwell of Hope; brothers-in-law, Cecil (Melinda) Henderson of Columbus and Clarence (Ramona) Henderson of Hope; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and infant sister, Mary Jane Caldwell.
