Obituary

David Lee Calender, 83, of Shelbyville, TN passed away Sunday November 25, 2018 at Tennova Healthcare Hospital in Shelbyville, TN.
Born May 27, 1935 in Hope, Indiana he was the son of Clinton and Lois Mae (McKinney) Calender. He married Bonnie Williams March 10, 2001 in Breeding, Ky. and she survives in Shelbyville. Other survivors include a sister, Clinta Mae Everroad of Hope; sons, Lynn (Cheryl) Calender of Breeding, Ky., Gary Calender of Hope and Kenny (Abby) Calender of Clifford; a daughter, Nancy (Tim) Saylor of Hope; stepdaughters, Lauren "Missie" Devereaux of Columbus, OH, Kimberly (Greg) Troup of Colorado Springs, CO and Tiffany (Alan) Calender of Shelbyville, TN; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and McKinney extended family in Hope and the surrounding area.
There will be a memorial service Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Dennis Chasteen officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to CFOIC Heartland- plant a tree in Israel. Forms will be available at the funeral home.
David worked as a meat processor at Clouse's IGA in Hope and was meat manager at Marsh Stores in Columbus. He owned Calender Hardware in Hope in the 70's. He was a farmer and had a trucking company hauling grain and retired as a truck driver for Keller Transport in 2002. After retirement he had a mowing service in Hope and sharpened things.
He graduated from Hope High School in 1955. He was a member of the Hope Volunteer Fire Department and the First Baptist Church of Hope.
During retirement David and Bonnie spent seven winter seasons in Florida where he enjoyed riding his bike with his toy poodle Babe. They traveled west to OK, TX, AR and CO several times always returning to Hope each summer to mow, sharpen things and enjoy family and friends and the men's coffee club at Corner Café'.
David was preceded in death by his parents; mother of his children, Betty Newsom Calender and a grandson, Nathan Calender.
