Obituary

Derek Lynn Thayer, 39, of Indianapolis, passed away Thursday March 4, 2021 at his residence.

Derek was born July 17th 1981 to Dave Thayer and Lynn Moore Thayer. He was a Hauser High School and DePauw University graduate with a degree in communications. He held various jobs, from retail to bank manager, but his favorite title by far was flight attendant for Republic Airways. Even in those brief 3 years, he made lasting friendships and enjoyed swapping entertaining stories of the sky with his fellow flight attendant sister.

Derek was very creative and found his outlet through t-shirt designing, personalized gifts, handmade cards for every occasion, and wrapping Christmas presents like a professional. He loved movies, video games and reading and had quite the collection of all three to prove it. Nobody was obsessed with the Golden Girls as much as Derek. From coloring books to cookbooks, if it existed, he owned it.

Survivors include, mother, Lynn Thayer of Hope; sister, Stephanie Thayer of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brothers, David "Troop" (Shauna) Thayer of Elizabethtown and Daron "Bugs" (Jen) Thayer of Columbus; aunts, Margaret Moore of Hope, Joyce Thayer-Sword of Columbus, and Melissa (Peter) Snyder of Ontario, Canada; uncles, Joe (Cheryl) Moore of El Cajon, CA, Dan (Lorna) Moore of Newberry, MI, Tom Moore of Paoli, Chris Thayer of Hope, Rob (Vickie) Thayer of Kentucky, and O.J.
