Doris Jean Monroe passed from this Earth to Heaven on Thursday, October 31, 2024.  Doris was a gentle, kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  Doris was born November 5, 1936, in Shelbyville, Indiana, the daughter of Danville and Sylvia Sullivan. She married Larry Monroe on November 3, 1956, and they were married 63 years until his death in 2020. Doris had a sister Louise Gwin and a brother Bill Brooks who preceded her in death.

Doris lived a full life raising six children.  She loved Sunday visits from her sons, babysitting her grandchildren and taking rides with her husband and daughter.  She loved to talk to everyone she met, always offering kind words and warm smiles.  She had a strong faith and always shared her love for Jesus with family, friends and strangers.

She is survived by 6 children: a daughter Anita (Scott) Mings of Flat Rock, sons Jeff Monroe of Columbus, Kent Monroe of Flat Rock, Eric (Sandy) Monroe of Hope, Tim Monroe of Hope and Steve Monroe.  She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jordan Myers, Justin Mings, Sarah Mings, Erica Burbrink, Joshua Monroe, Cassy Minor, Glenn Monroe, Jessica Foster and Jennifer Monroe. She also has 14 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 4th at the Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock, Indiana.
