Edith M. Gorrell, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away on
Monday, March 21, 2016 at Ashford Place in Shelbyville.
She was a secretary at Camp Atterbury and Swift
Fertilizer Co. in Flat Rock, but mostly she was a housewife.
Edith was a member of Flat Rock Christian Church
where she was a pianist/organist for over 65 years.
She liked playing bingo and enjoyed her grandkids
and great-grandkids. She loved her family and gospel
music.
The funeral will be Wednesday, March 23 at
12:00 p.m. at Flat Rock Christian Church with Pastor Brian
Ebersold officiating the service. Visitation will be from
10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Flat Rock
Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Flat Rock
Christian Church. Born on January 20, 1924 in Washington
Township in Shelby County, Edith was the daughter of
Herman and Eva Drake Weinantz. She married Forrest
Gorrell on August 2, 1941 and they were married for
over 71 years. He preceded her in death on September 28,
2012.
Survivors include son, Phil (Cathy) Gorrell of Flat Rock;
grandchildren, Jason (Melanie) Gorrell of Greenwood, Jeffrey
(Jessica) Gorrell of Greensburg, and Jaime (Todd) Brown of
Brownstown; great-grandchildren, Evan, Melia, Haley, Ryan,
Hannah, and Ross Gorrell and Isabella, Sawyer, and Symon
Brown.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents; husband;
and brothers, George and Harry Weinantz.
