Eugene Edward "Gene" Bales, 82 of Shelburn, formerly of Westport died Wednesday March 23, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Gene was born in East St. Louis, Il, December 23 1928 to Russell and Belle Borland Bales. He was veteran who served two years on a ship in the Merchant Marines delivering supplies to our troops during WWII. He was a retired IBEW journeyman electrician and a Master Mason.
The love of his life was Rose Mahurin of Sullivan, In and he shared many enjoyable times with Rose and her wonderful family.
He is survived by four children, Sharon (Bob) Sandford of Indianapolis, Sandra (Ron) Brown of Columbus, Ron (Paula) Bales of Marco Island, FL, and Nancy Dougherty of Keller, TX. He also had six granchildren , Karen Starks of Tullahoma, TN., Brian Vance of Plano, TX., Atisha Vance of Columbus, Eric (Melissa) Bales of Opelika, AL. Erin (Justin) Sheppard of Bargersville and Kyra Dougherty of Keller, TX.
He also is survived by nine great grandchildren, Jaimie, James, Stephanie, Brianna, Garrett, Taylor, Madison, Leah and Paige, brothers Russell Bales of Escondido, CA., Richard Bales of East Peoria, IL., Lee Bales of Irving, IL, and a sister Nadine LaFavor of St. Charles, MO.
Visitation will be Sunday March 27 at Norman Funeral Home in Hope from 10:00 untill 12:00 p.m. and the memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Lower Union Cemetery in Decatur County.
