Obituary

On Tuesday, August 11, James H. Meier, 77, passed away quietly in his sleep surrounded by family members. Jim was born in Columbus, IN on March 28, 1943, the only child of Jacob A. Meier and Mary Gail (DeBusk) Meier. After graduating from Hauser High School, where he excelled in athletics, and completing a semester Indiana Central University, Jim began his working career at Cummins Engine Company in February of 1962, the same year he married his high school sweetheart Joyce (Titus) Meier. Throughout his career, he worked as a service engineer in Columbus and at the Cummins Chicago Divisional Office as well as at Cummins Distributors in Omaha, Neb and in Columbus, OH. He retired in 2006.

Jim and Joyce were married on June 30, 1962 and recently celebrated their 58 th wedding anniversary. They raised two daughters Jennifer (Steve) Wallace of Hope, IN, and Patricia (Steve) Harney of Fishers, IN, and one son, Todd (Jennifer) Meier of Middlebury, IN. One great wish of his and one that he saw fulfilled, says Joyce, was that his children would grow up to be good people.

Jim will be forever remembered by family, friends and neighbors as a very generous man, willing to give of his time and expertise to anyone in need. He had a humble passion for projects and was well known for his and ability to fix almost anything. When he wasn't in his garage repairing or creating, he could be found on the golf course. Although Jim was a fan of any type of racing event, he was very specific when it came to supporting high school sports, attending every Hauser High School basketball game he could as well as other sports in which his children and grandchildren participated. All who knew him loved his quiet sense of humor and remember him as a peacemaker, respectable and always seeking a solution to benefit everyone.

Jim is survived by his wife, his children and their spouses, six grandchildren: Micah Wallace, Justin Wallace, Jacob Meier, Sam Meier, Mikaela Blankenship and Ian Harney, and two great-grandchildren, Ryder Schoemaker and Reagan Meier. He was proceeded in death by both his parents, his in-laws, Oren and Reba Titus and one grandchild, Adam Harney.

A funeral service will be held Monday, August 17 at 4 p.m. at the Hope Moravian Church, 202 Main Street, Hope, In. The service will be proceeded by a viewing from 2-4 p.m.

The church and family ask that care be taken to protect everyone during this time. They understand that some may not feel comfortable attending and welcome those friends and family to honor Jim from their own homes. While in the church, please practice social distancing and masks are required.

Memorial donations in memory of Jim can be made to the Hauser Athletic Department, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th Street Columbus, IN 47201 or the Hawcreek-Flat Rock Area Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 202 Hope, IN 47246.
