James Richard "Rick" Ray, has gone to be with his beloved
Pat. He passed away Saturday June 28, 2014 at his home. They
were married 48 years before she passed away in December of 1988.
He was in the U.S. Navy for 3 years. He was employed at Cummins
Engine Company for 16 years and was owner of the Oasis Liquor Store
in Hope for 23 years.
Rick enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, watching NASCAR and playing cards.
He played basketball for Shelbyville High School and got the nickname "Birddog."
He leaves behind 2 daughters, Cathy Day (Mark) of Hope and Cindy Day (Dwight) of Knoxville, Arkansas; 3 grandchildren, Tracy
Smith (Jason) of Greenwood, Jennifer Madden (Chris) of Greenwood
and Jim Lucas (Heather) of Columbus and 4 great grandchildren, Courtney and Faith Lucas and Lincoln and Lila Madden.
Born March 3, 1928 in Shelbyville, Rick was the son of Russell
and Carrie Alice Armsrtong Ray.
There will be a Celebration of Rick's life Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Bartholomew County American Cancer Society through the funeral home.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Pat and 4 siblings.
