Joan Bernhardt Carr, 88 of Shelbyville, died Sunday
November 23, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
Born December 23, 1925 in Indianapolis, she was the
daughter of Spencer Bernhardt and Mary Florence (Perry)
Bernhardt. She married Victor H. Carr on June 23, 1950
and he preceded her in death on January 14, 2013.
She was also preceded in death by her twin brother,Joe
Ed Bernhardt and sister-in-law, Mary (Crews) Bernhardt
of Bloomington.
Surviving is her son, Michael E. Carr of Indianapolis,
and several cousins.
Mrs. Carr was a 1944 graduate of Shelbyville High
School and continued her education at Indiana Central
University (now University of Indianapolis) and at IUPUI.
She was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church,
and had been a member of the Shelby County Historical
Society, and a volunteer at Major Hospital.
Mrs. Carr had worked for the Internal Revenue Service,
Credit Bureau of Shelbyville, Shelby National Bank and
Fairland National Bankl. She had also owned an antiques
shop in Hope for several years.
She loved all animals especially cats and Beagles.
The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at Norman Funeral
Home in Hope with Rev. Leslie Fix officiating. Visitation will
be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at
Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shelbyville/
Shelby County Animal Shelter or the Flat Rock United
Methodist Church through the funeral home.
