John A. Pence, 92, of Hope died Friday, December 9, 2016 at Silver Oaks Health Campus.
He was a farmer and was a veteran of the Army Air Force during the WWII. John was a member of Old Union United Church of Christ and a longtime member of Gideons International. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He enjoyed farming and livestock.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Old Union Church of Christ with Pastor Kirby Rupp officiating. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to Old Union United Church of Christ, Gideons International, or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born on August 8, 1924, John was the son of Roger and Blanche Lain Pence. He married Betty Clark on December 6, 1949, and she preceded him in death on December 17, 2013.
Survivors include sons, John D. (Ann) Pence and Jim (Bev) Pence, both of Hope; grandchildren, Sarah (Justin) Wagler of Morgantown, Rachel Pence of Hope, Missy (Andy) Dempsey of Hope, Amy (Kyle) Shipp of Whiteland, Jason Pence and Kevan Pence, both of Hope; great-grandchildren, Emma Wagler, Ava, Adyn, and Laney Dempsey, and Braiden, Charlie, and Dylan Shipp; and sister-in-law, Ola Schneider of Columbus.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and brother, Paul Pence.
