John R. Simmonds, 88 of Burney, IN died Sunday February 21, 2010 at Heritage House of Greensburg.
He was retired from being a safety inspector for IOSHA. He owned and operated a grocery store in Burney with his wife for many years. He was also a contractor and did some farming.
He was a member of World Wide Church of God, Greensburg VFW, a former member of Greensburg American Legion. He was a WWII Air Force Veteran.
The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 pm at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Douglas Preston officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 and from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery with Military graveside rites.

Born on January 25, 1922 in Richmond, IN, Mr. Simmonds was the son of Samuel T. and Ozella Mobley Simmonds. He married Alma Giles 68 years ago on August 16, 1941 and she survives in Burney.
Survivors include two daughters, Roberta (Joe) Linger of Westport and Rose Mary (Ed) Cooper of Jackson, MO.; a son, John E.(Cathy) Simmonds of Franklin, TN; a sister, Mary June Malmberg of Fla.; 1 brother, Jean R. Simmonds of Arkansas; grandchildren, John Masterson of Fla., Steve Masterson of Greensburg, Mike Whipple of TN, Russell Whipple of OK, Jenny Gher of IN, Amanda Whipple of IN and Jason and Brenna Simmonds of TN and 14 great grandchildren.
Mr. Simmonds was preceded in death by; a grandson, William A. Whipple; brothers, twins Edward and Edwin, Kenny, Maurice and Richard Simmonds; sisters, Gladys Ashley, Vivian Halsema and Norma Breckenridge.
