Obituary

Mr. Lloyd White, 87 of Shelbyville passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011 at his
home. He was the husband of Retta Maxine (Staker) White.
Mr. White was born in Riley, KY on April 18, 1924. He was the son of the late Charlie C.
and Vertie Mae (Reynolds) White. He was a resident of Indiana for more than 50 years and a
self-employed Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor. He was the first to be appointed
Bartholomew County Highway Engineer in 1964, elected Bartholomew County Surveyor in
1969, a registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in the state of Indiana, Louisiana
and California, and graduate of Purdue University.
He enjoyed flying his airplanes, helicoptor, boating, fishing, traveling and football games
with his children and grandchildren, and growing tomatoes for sale at a roadside stand at his
home. A visionary, he was best known as a man with a clear vision of future technologies.
He served in the United States Navy from 1941-1946 stationed in Pearl Harbor, the United
States Army from 1948-1952 and recipient of the World War II Victory Medal.
Besides his wife of 60 years, he leaves 2 sons, Wynn L.(Diane) of Baton Rouge, LA
and Randall D. (Sharon) White of Columbus; daughters, Teresa A. Barron of Shelbyville and
Sharon K. Phares of Columbus; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by sisters, Virginia McQueen, Idella Humbel and Arnola
Records.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 am at Norman Funeral Home
in Hope. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be
Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 until service time at the funeral home.
