Maria Shepherd, 71, of Hartsville, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

She spent the last 11 months of her life residing at Miller's Merry Manor.

Maria was a homemaker for most of her life. She also did occasional housekeeping and working at restaurants.

She was a member of Hartsville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being with her friends from church, going places with her husband, watching classic television shows, and playing bingo.

Maria was born on August 2, 1946 in Manila, Philippines to Pablo Mercado and Lourdes Casado Lockhart. She was later adopted by her stepfather, Herschel H. Lockhart. She married Max Shepherd on August 6, 1973, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2017.

Survivors include her son, Eric Shepherd of Hartsville; half-brother, Harold Lockhart; and half-sisters, Fran Harrison and Cecilia Morris.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Cremation is planned and a family gathering will be held at a later date.
