Obituary

Mary M. Artis 91 of Hope passed away Sunday Nov. 27, 2011 at Heritage
House Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Mrs. Artis was a member of Friendly Neighbor Community Club and Indiana Farm
Bureau. She was a graduate of Flat Rock High School.
She had worked at Reliance Garment Factory , Flat Rock canning factory and as a house keeper during World War II and later became a housewife.
Mrs. Artis was a christian woman that enjoyed church and family. She liked gardening,
cooking , her pets and the country life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope
with Mrs. Artis's niece Pastor Amy Artis officiating. Calling hours will be Wednesday from
4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hawcreek Community Center Cemetery or
the Gideon Bibles thru the funeral home.
Born in Shelby County January 10, 1920, Mrs. Artis was the daughter of Martin
and Hazel Horner Shirley. She married Samuel D. Artis in 1944 and he preceded her in death
in 1984.
Survivors include a son Charles Lynn (Bonnie) Artis of Hope ; grandchildren
Tammy (Allen) Bates of Greensburg, Danny (Charity) Artis of Flat Rock and Matthew (Sandy)
Artis of Decatur Co.; eight great grandchildren and a sister Marcelle G Roarke of Hope.
Mrs. Artis was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Clifton Artis; a sister Zelma Schonfield, and brothers Sheldon and Lloyd Shirley.
