Mattie Evelyn Erwin, 83, of Columbus,
passed away September 22, 2014, at her home.
Before retiring, she had worked as a
cook in restaurants. A member of Grayford
Road Church in Dupont, Mattie loved quilting,
cooking and going to garage sales. She also
was a doll collector.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m.
Thursday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with
Timmy Poer officiating. Visitation will be
Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time at
the funeral home. Burial will be at
Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery west of Clifford.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our
Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born January 1, 1931, in Glasgow, Kentucky,
Mattie was the daughter of John and Hagar Smith
Bushong. She married Thomas J. "Shorty" Erwin
and he preceded her in death in November of 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Faye Howard,
Sue (Ed) Bates, Debbie Scott and Brenda Erwin,
all of Columbus; sons, Jerry (Sharon) Erwin of
Flat Rock and Greg (Sherri) Erwin of Columbus;
10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and
siblings, Raymond Bushong, Anna McDonald, Linda
Morgan and John Depp Bushong, all of Glasgow,
Kentucky.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents,
her husband, and siblings, William, Richard,
James and Geneva Bushong and Betty Reese.
