Pauline Bowers Engle, 81, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born on April 8, 1944 in Monroe County, KY, Pauline was the daughter of Herman K. and Gracie Ellen Fox Proffitt. She married John Bowers on January 29, 1960 and he preceded her in death in 1980. She then married Lester Engle in 1982 and preceded her in death in 2002.

Pauline worked as a nurse's aide at Four Seasons for 25 years. She was a member of 25th Street Church of Christ in Columbus and Eastern Star, Columbus Chapter #339 OES. She had just received her 50-year pin on April 16, 2025 and was very proud of it.

She enjoyed doing wordsearch and jigsaw puzzles. She loved reading and attending Bible study lessons.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; daughter, Mary Bowers Legan who passed away in 2017; and seven siblings.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 23 at 1 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Pauline will be laid to rest at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery next to her husband, John.
