Phyllis A. Epperson, 84, of Columbus, died Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Four Seasons Healthcare.

Before retirement, she was an IPS school teacher and taught at School #34. She taught at the same school for 37 years. Phyllis graduated from Butler University with a Master's degree.

She was a member of Hope Moravian Church. She attended all of the Moravian music festivals, which were held at different locations across the U.S.. Phyllis was a dedicated Moravian and loved the history of the church. She made an effort to attend services at all of the Moravian churches in the U.S.

Phyllis enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. She played violin and was in a violin trio in her younger years. After retirement, she started playing trombone in the New Horizons Band in Indianapolis and in the Hope Moravian Church band.

Born on January 28, 1932, Phyllis was the daughter of Floyd B. and Beulah N. Swartz Epperson.

Survivors include sister-in-law, Carolyn A. Epperson of Columbus; nephews, David L. Epperson and Steven L. Epperson, both of Columbus; niece, Lisa A. Epperson, of Columbus; great-nephew, Kristofer S. Epperson of Columbus; great-niece, Kara K. (Justin) Perkins of Columbus; great-great-nephew, Zadrian A. Perkins of Columbus; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Howard L. Epperson; uncles, William Epperson and George Swartz; aunts, Mary Epperson Kaster and Ellen Jeanette Swartz.

The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Moravian Church in Hope with Pastor Andy Kilps officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Hope Moravian Cemetery Perpetual Fund or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
