Richard Preston Ray (71) of Flat Rock, Indiana died Friday,
April 25, 2014 at Silver Oaks Health Campus, Columbus, Indiana.
Richard P. Ray was born June 22, 1942 to Charles Preston
and Madesta R. (Thomas) Ray in Columbus, Indiana. He graduated
from Hauser High School in 1960 and served in the US Navy from
May 1960 – June 1963.
He was a truck driver for most of his career. He was an avid
fisherman and enjoyed pitching horse shoes in tournaments. He
was a farrier and liked riding horses.
Survivors include his mother, Modesta of Columbus; two sons,
Greg (Michael Flagg) Eaton of Glenview, IL and Ryan Preston Ray
of Fayetteville, North Carolina. One grandson, Lewis Preston Ray
also of North Carolina. A brother Chuck (Kim) Ray of Hartsville,;
sisters Lynn Hedden of Seymour, Virginia (David) Palmer of
Indianapolis, Anita (Tom) Beeker of Hope, Rocky (David) Lortz of
Hope, and Nancy (Jay) Shoaf of Hope; and seventeen nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Robert A. Ray
and a nephew, Daniel T, Beeker.
Memorial donations can be sent to Premier Hospice of Seymour,
American Lung Association, Cancer Society or the donor's choice
of charities.
A private service will be held later in May. Cremation and
arrangements are handled through Norman Funeral Home in Hope,
Indiana.
