Obituary

Richard Gary "R.G." Nolan, 73 of Columbus died Thursday
July 23, 2015 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Before retirement he was self-employed as a farrier for
35 plus years. He obtained his Farrier Science Degree at the
University of Tennessee. In earlier years he trained horses and
worked with the mounted patrol in Washington D.C. shoeing
their horses.

R.G. attended the First Methodist Church in Flat Rock, IN. He was
a member of the Hope Masonic Lodge 150.

He loved blacksmithing, creating things out of horseshoes. He
was a collector of watches and knives. He enloyed attending events
with the Masons and volunteering.  He shod and cared for the horses
at Sycamore Hills Girls Scout Camp in Ashland, TN.

Born July 25, 1941in McKenzie, TN, R.G. was the son of Leo
Frank Nolan and Alma Christine Johnson Putnam.

There will be visitation hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday
followed by a Masonic service at 7:00 at Norman Funeral
Home in Hope, IN. There will be visitation hours at Spring
Hill Funeral Home in Nashville, TN on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
and Wednesday from 11-1 p.m. A graveside service will
follow at 1:00 at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Girls Scouts of
Middle, TN, 4522 Granny White Pike, Nashville, TN 37204
or Saddle Up, 1549 Old Hillsboro, Nashville, TN 37069.

R.G. is survived by a daughter, Mary Lynn (Eric) Snyder of
Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Megan (Grant) Gardner of
San Francisco, Ian Snyder of Washington, D.C. and Hayden Snyder
of Nashville, TN; siblings, Wade (Melissa) Putnam, Mickey Ray Nolan
and Carol Sue Putnam, all of Nashville, TN and Rickey Nolan of
Omaha, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews; a companion,
Carol Rich of Hope, IN; his brothers of the Masonic Lodge, especially
those of Hope Lodge 150 and all of those who participated with him
in the World's Largest Trail Ride in Eminence, MO for over 35 years.

R.G. was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Alma; a son,
Richard Gregory Nolan; his step-mother, Kathryn Nolan;
his step-father, George Putnam.
