Ruth I. Whittington, 83, of Hope, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Before retirement, Ruth worked at Arvins for 47 years. She was a member of Hartsville Church of Christ and Hartsville Church of Christ Red Hat Society.
Ruth was an avid bowler. She enjoyed going for drives and out to eat. She also enjoyed spending her time sitting outside and watching birds. She really enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
Born on October 30, 1934 in Marion County, Ruth was the daughter of Hiram and Ida Kelsey Smith.
Survivors include children, Teresa Whittington and Tony Whittington, both of Hope; grandchildren, Nikki (Amber) Whittington of Kokomo, Michelle (John) Mercer of North Carolina, and Tony Whittington, Jr. of Hope; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Orville "Sonny" Smith.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Roll, Bonnie Stafford, Olive Roberta "Sis" Delph, and Patricia Smith; and brothers, Hiram "PeeWee" Smith Jr. and Otha "Duke" Smith.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Douglas officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
