Obituary

Steve Ray Gates, 54 of Hope died at 5:15 p.m. Monday June 9 in high water
near his home.
Mr. Gates was employed at Cummins for 30 years. He also worked at CTI, Bartholomew County Highway Dept. and Arvin's. He was a member of the Hawpatch-Hawcreek Conservation Club, and back in high school was the president of Hauser FFA.
He lived for hunting deer and other game with his son and many friends. He
loved gardening , working on his farm, and helping his children with 4-H projects. He was a loving husband to his wife of 35 years, and a wonderful father to his 3 children.
The funeral will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and on Sat. from 11:00 - 12:00. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hauser High School FFA or Hawpatch-Hawcreek Conservation Club thru the funeral home.
Born in Bartholomew County September 15, 1953 he was the son of Clarence
and Ruby Shephard Gates. He married Jennifer Swift February 24, 1973 and she survives.
Other survivors include daughters; Stephanie and Jessica Gates; a son,
David Gates and a brother Clarence all of Hope.
Mr. Gates was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Frank and Martha Gates.
