Thomas "Tom" Darius Dodd, 86, of Hope went to his eternal heavenly home on August 10, 2016.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Hope Moravian Church Outreach Center
202 Main Street, Hope Indiana and will be officiated by Pastor Andy Kilps. Burial will follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Saturday 4-7pm and one hour before the service at the Hope Moravian Church Outreach Center. A Masonic service will be held on Saturday at 6:45 pm.
Funeral arrangements were made through Norman Funeral Home in Hope.
Tom was born December 7, 1929 in Hope, IN to Joe and Irene Reed Dodd.
He married Patricia Pence of Columbus on August 26th, 1950 and she survives. He and his wife traveled all 50 states in their almost 66 years of marriage. Tom is a third generation farmer. He was a quiet giant in the farming community helping neighbors, his church and his Ag community when needed. He always was willing to share his love of farming and raising animals. Tom valued his family, church, community and education.
He was an active member of the Hope Moravian Church, the Hope Masonic Lodge, Modern Farmers, Scottish Rite of Indianapolis and a 4-H Club leader and advisory board member of the Bartholomew County Extension Service. Tom was a founding member of Bartholomew County Modern Farmers and Bartholomew County Pork Producers and held offices in each. He served on the board of directors of Irwin Union Bank in Hope, Farmers Marketing Association, and Hope Moravian Church Board of Trustee.
Tom & his wife are the parents of 4 children, Karen (Steve) Nading of Hope, Gary (Susie) Dodd of Hope, Kathy (Brent) Peters of Columbus and Mark Dodd of Lipetsk Russia. The joy of his life was spending time with his 10 grandchildren: Joe Dodd of San Diego, CA, Leslie (Nate) Paulin of LaGrange, KY, Laura Nading of Chicago, Katelin Nading of Hope, IN, Zachary (Audrey) Peters, Evansville, IN, Megan Peters of Chicago, Emma(Chance) Eakin of Austin TX., Dalton Dodd of Xenia, Ohio, Evan Dodd of Terra Haute, IN, Claire Dodd of Greenwood;2 great grandchildren, Georgia Peters and Silas Paulin.
Tom's surviving siblings are JoAnn Schwartzkopf of Westport and a brother Sam Dodd of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Sophia Major, Helen Dailey, and Lola Sweeney.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted to the Moravian Church Building Fund and the Moravian Cemetery Fund.
